THOUSANDS PARTICIPATE IN CANADA’S NATIONAL STUDENT MATH CHALLENGE
Student Math Excellence Recognized Across Canada
OTTAWA, Ontario — In November 2009, 8,400 students from across Canada and abroad competed for top honours in the 2009 Sun Life Financial Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC). Nine students earned top honours, sixteen students were named provincial winners, and almost 140 other students were awarded medals.
RESULTS
The top nine contestants in the 2009 COMC are:

The Sun Life Financial COMC is organized and administered by the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) in collaboration with the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (University of Waterloo).

The competition is one in a series of CMS competitions leading to the selection of the Canadian student team to compete in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). The purpose of the COMC is to encourage students to explore, discover, and learn more about mathematics and problem solving.
